Morning routines in the classroom
Every morning when the children come into school there will be resources available for them to take part in ‘choose your learning’. This is an important part of the day as it encourages the children to be as independent as possible at the start of the school day. In each class, they should register themselves using the class routines. Your child's learning will be set out on the table for them to start straight away. Every child has the opportunity to access each learning activity at least once each week.
We have 2 planned PE sessions each week so it is important for your child’s PE kit to be brought into school every Monday. Children have a peg in the cloakroom to hang their PE kit onto. Over the course of the year, children will participate in indoor PE sessions such as gymnastics and dance but we also try to complete 1 session each week outside. In the cooler weather, please make sure that your child has a pair of tracksuit bottoms or similar and a warm top.
Your child will be sent home with homework on a Friday. This is usually due in the following Thursday, although for some pieces we always give the children longer. Your child should read regularly, practise their spellings and continue to learn their times tables every day.
We always try our best to explain the homework task clearly in our notes, but please come and see us if you are unsure about anything.
Your child should bring their bookbag, reading book and reading journal into school every day. This not only means that the adults in school can hear them read, but also that we can change their book regularly and keep you up to date with how well they are doing.
We always have a piece of fruit available for children at morning playtime. We are very lucky to be sent a wonderful range of fresh fruit and vegetables each week for the children to try.
Every child in Key Stage 1 is now entitled to a free hot school meal at lunchtime. Our experienced lunchtime supervisors go to the log cabin with children every day to support staff with this. If you would like to see the menu please visit Chartwells at https://westsussex.mealselector.co.uk/Page/24/Download-current-menus.html or come and speak to a member of staff in school.
